At least where I live I've heard it used as a somewhat derogatory term on occasion, but not very frequently and not really on the level of a slur. It's more of a way to try and be a bit disrespectful and tactless than anything else. Very teenagery? That said it's also just.. sued as shorthand by lesbians too so like it can really go either way.
