American school world history classes suck. They turn it into the America show, starring America and guest starring the rest of the world. You should have seen World war 2 as I was taught it. The queen is just an unimportant figurehead and nothing more and has been for years as I was taught.
I'll be honest, I don't know shit and it hasn't impacted me, which is why I'm staying quiet and letting people who feel like it meme and do their thing. I will never truly understand it like they do, no matter how much I read. I assume they feel the same way I will when some of our shitstain politicians die.
Mind, I've seen some pretty awful shit, but I'm only reporting it when folks take it to politics/current event free spaces. Because those spaces exist for a reason.
What's funny is Canadian history classes (or at least the ones I had, can't speak for the whole country) are very similar in this aspect. Somehow even though she was our queen too we didn't learn shit about her or any other country's roles in recent history and literally just talked about Canada's role in the war of 1812, WWI/II, etc. Everything else I know about history, I learned from books and youtube because I sure wasn't going to learn it from my teachers.
Even if it does focus on something other than America, it's always Europe and how other places relate to Europe. If we learn about the Middle East, it's about the Crusades or that Europe traded with them. China: Europe traded with them. Africa: Europe colonized them and brought about the trans-Atlantic slave trade. South/North America: Europe colonized them and kicked the natives out because Manifest Destiny.
