My favorite part is how they keep being like "well anyone ANGRY enough about that post would OBVIOUSLY have read the comments for updates so this had to be bait"
Like, no homie. Sometimes people just dont read comments on posts likevthat, and also sending an anon is not some daunting task that requires simmering fury as motivation
Hell some of us (like me) probably DID read the comments, but due to timing they hadn't responded by then but apparently that's our problem for not continuously stalking a post for updates or something instead of them just, y'know... making a more visible public post? Shrug I guess.
LOL I feel your frustrations. I don't know what irritates me more, SMR or SMR's "valiant" defenders. (why are they even defending them? it's okay to like a blog but also take issue with the decisions they make sometimes, but this is a very weird thing to defend IMO)
Esp that person who said, "The original post even said it was tentative and you wanted feedback, even someone who didn’t read the comments would know it wasn’t set in stone yet"
Yeah, but here's a shocking thought........ they thought about it for more than a second and didn't see anything wrong with it. And now they've said "Back to the drawing board!" which I HOPE does not imply they're going to think about other ways they can try to monetize their blog, but dammit, it really does read like that.
it absolutely kills me how they run a drama blog and they think themselves so highly. i'm sorry, dude! you're a rage tabloid just like all the others, and you're not better just because you delete things or tag them more thoroughly. you're, in fact, even worse for wanting to monetize the things you delete or even thinking it was a good idea.
Holy shit. The admin situation over there is really bad huh. Not only did this person (people? idk I don't keep up with the blog) think that monetizing deleted posts was good enough of an idea to put out there for feedback, they're also accusing people of... baiting? For sending an annoyed ask instead of breathlessly stalking the comments section of one post for updates? Why did this idiot even bother to ask for feedback on their stupid shitty idea if this is how they're going to respond when they get it, lmao
I've had people ask me to make a tumblr version of ARR but as someone who has been on tumblr since its early stages, I say this with all the sincere energy I can muster:
No. I ain't got the energy for that. Not the ask/submission system, the lack of ways to block/filter IP addresses while keeping it anonymous, and the endless ways that harassment can be done.
I do like tumblr's format, but it's much more manageable here, and there's more transparency- SMR's mods can just chose NOT to publish submissions, and they delete posts for many petty reasons- like possible monetization, lol.
(Despite what folks say, I only screen/delete comments that are truly vile. They're frozen otherwise.)
If anyone WANTS to do an AR type tumblr and wants to be affliates? I'd be down. But as far as running one myself?
Like Mindless said, drama will always be free here as long as there's drama to provide.
I think what the mods on SMR are doing and how they're responding is very immature and juvenile in terms of responding to genuine asks and concerns. Yeah yeah trolls are a thing, it is the internet but my dudes, this ain't it.
Moderate how you want to be dang, don't be snippy over actual legit feedback about monetizing content.
I mean, I don't think it's right of them to ask for money. But on the other hand, no one has to give them anything either. I think even a kid would know it is a dumb idea to give them money
Funny you would say that! A friend of mine and myself are currently talking and planning to do just that since we're both pretty sick of SMR and hopefully enough people feel the same way.
We don't want to step on your guys' toes, but would you all be cool with us making a comment thread in the wank area asking for people's general issues & complaints about SMR? Obviously we have our own opinions but want to see how the general drama community feels.
I mentioned in a reply to Mindless that a friend of mine and myself are currently talking and planning out what an alternative drama blog to SMR would look like. We both have a lot of issues with the way that SMR is run but want to hear from others about what your general complaints are so we can take them into consideration.
Our plan is for a blog more similar to DR in style where we are not commenting on drama, purely curating drama to avoid bias. We both feel strongly about not deleting anything unless absolutely necessary and not posting dreams, scrys, and other non-drama submissions.
We also won't spam follow the community on tumblr. Promise. ♥
Link it when you do. I will happily send shit there.
There needs to be a happpy medium between the two salt Tumblrs. Activity, keeping it relevant, and not deleting drama at the drop of a hat if it involves friends.
the merit is that it cuts down on potential harassment, which is reportable on tumblr, and i don't fault them for not wanting to fall down the same rabbit hole the original dramarising did. the downside is that the blogs don't enforce you adding any actual proof for your drama so it's not searchable by any means. even screenshots with names censored are easy to look up; if you take the extra steps to search some key words/phrases, you can find out who the hell people are talking about with little trouble.
but since the blogs don't require that, people can post whatever they want out of context and no one can verify the situation. it's ridiculously frustrating to parse the actual drama from someone who's just really mad at someone else and wants to publicly air their biased dirty laundry somewhere since FR doesn't let you.
I get that. And yeah, the lack of context is even worse. It's why I prefer AR to DR/SMR, because lack of context/proof just ends up in people getting dogpiled for no reason, compared to here, where people get dragged for shit they deserve, lol.
We've been talking about it, and we feel like being able to namedrop so long as proper proof is provided (archived links and images, though links would be more important) could be permissible, but that vagueposting and withholding the username if the poster wishes to do so can be allowed as well if they just want to mildly vent. While getting reported for harassment is a bit of an issue, we've seen other callout blogs in the past for other petsites that allow namedropping such as Lioden, Furvilla, and Dappervolk get by just fine.
Sometimes it can be frustrating when something like, say an art thief is posted about but no one namedrops so they can't be blocked or avoided, but I can understand withholding the username when it's just a slight transgression such as... "I don't like x's taste in dragons". Especially if namedropping the person actually incriminates the poster when it wouldn't otherwise.
However, we are still very much brainstorming and this is one of the tougher things to think about, so if you have any comments or suggestions to our idea, it would be doing us a favor to tell us about them.
