Super weird to me that despite numerous people having A) explained why asking for IDs is a terrible idea, B) explained it isn’t even as efficient or foolproof for keeping minors out, and C) offered better and more realistic methods for age verification, Dakkokki is still insistent on requiring this information. Sure hope any one naive enough to give a weird internet stranger their ID also has credit and identity theft monitoring.

since you're asking me this in (presumably) good faith i will elaborate. i find this format REALLY confusing bc of all the anons and the acronyms and the people piling on me when i was originally (admittedly snarkily) suggesting someone just start their own blog (which would be welcome tbh! it's boring that AR and SMR are the only places to go) are stressing me out.

1. the anon asks the anon they're replying to to explain their thoughts on why they dislike SMR.
2. anon #2 posts a detailed explanation of their opinion on how SMR is run, one of the major points being that they dislike the amount of not-salt.
3. i posted that i disagreed and did like the not-salt, and suggested anon #2 either not follow (if they don't like the content) or start their own blog so they can curate it as they see fit.
4. anon #2 thinks my argument "doesn't work" bc they have to wade through not-salt to read salt and bc they think they would have a hard time attracting followers to a new blog.
5. i said that the fact that they have to wade through not-salt is their own issue, meaning it's not something that invalidates my argument that they either stop reading SMR or start their own blog.
6. anon #2 thinks that i meant they shouldn't express opinions on how SMR is run (i think).
7. i said that i do think they can have opinions, but that nothing they've said invalidates my original suggestion to either stop reading or start a new blog.

I'm gonna a be honest I legitimately do not understand why this is a big deal. I've been in lots of nsfw discord servers that require a censored ID+selfie for access. Nothing has ever gone wrong. Everyone talking about doxxing and shit but like. Maybe I just don't have the shit to lose to be worrying about it. What are they gonna do with my DoB anyways? You can't get into my bank account with that, you can't find my address with that, hell, you can find more about me on my other social medias. It's just another gate to deter the people who might try and sneak in yknow. this is one of the things i think SMR def gets right. their policy of deleting posts on request helps the mental health of people who feel like they're getting dogpiled or who feel anxious bc an anonymous person is criticizing them. it's a really thoughtful policy actually.

You’d be surprised with what people can do with seemingly little information. You get enough information on a person from full name, DOB, street name, school history, whatever - that’s enough to get a foot in the door if they’re lax about their security (which I imagine people who give out their uncensored IDs to internet strangers likely are).

Everything we do online and in life ultimately has risks, but there’s things worth those risks and things not. Not to mention levels of risk. I’ll give my information to open a bank account because the level of risk is lower and the result is beneficial. The level of risk in giving some random discord owner my ID is not worth it because I have no idea what their method of protecting my information is and dragon porn is not worth something going wrong.

That said, if censored IDs were what’s being requested for this server than yeah, while I still think it’s weird personally to require that, it’s less risky (albeit still easily circumvented, thus making it pretty useless for this purpose). But it sounds like Dakkokki was accepting any ID and not requiring them to be censored, which is pretty concerning.

Take a break from the screen and take care of yourself.
