They tried to defend themselves in the notes saying that the bare minimum you need to do is just block out everything else and just include your DOB, but 1) that just makes it meaningless at that point because it becomes so easy to fabricate and 2) I wonder if they only said that as an attempt to backpedal after realizing all the negative attention this is garnering.

The way people talked about it in the notes that seemed to be in the server implies that only including your DOB is an ALTERNATIVE solution. Captain-chompers even describes it as a "bare-minimum", meaning they'd accept more information if you were to give it. And, based on the initial feelings about it, I get the feeling that this bare minimum wasn't disclosed in the beginning, but maybe that's just me. I wish I could see the wording of whatever post they made that told people they'd need to show ID, it'd clear things up for me I feel.

Holy shit... I have a lot of issues with SMR as a salt-blog but this just takes the cake. Did they delete the post themselves then to try to protect the server? I'm so curious now.

It can absolutely be illegal to ask for images of IDs though. Have these people not worked in anything involving sensitive information? You do need to have clear policies about storage and access for this.

Look, if y'all have a better alternative to verifying ages so minors don't get in and can't lie, I'm more than happy to hear them, like genuinely I am. I hate having to ask for IDs as much as the next person, but this is the best idea we thought of that could protect the members from minors invading the space, because we all know minors love to do that kinda stuff and FR does have a lot of minors in it.

Seriously, please let me know any alternatives you can think of.

Please elaborate, because I've side-eyed them a few times as well and this is just... Wow.

Doesn't Discord have its own way of verifying age for 18+ servers? Just make a separate one for your porn and let Discord do the work instead of asking people to dox themselves to you, some dumbass who doesn't even understand why this is dangerous.

Sadly it really doesn't, it just says "are you 18+ yes/no" and you can just click yes, so people can lie about their ages very easily and slip past any barriers in place.

I've had issues with how they involve themselves in posts/delete posts (like this example here, because it creates an issue where people can't refer back to the post if a similar situation or a situation involving the people of that post arises - aka deprives people of that resource), and also with the influx of not-salt things they put out. I know they made a post just recently about how they'll stop with the low-quality asks but until I know what they mean by that, (besides the post they made where it was literal garbage and not the low-quality stuff I was expecting), I'll say this:

that mushroom and egg arc was annoying as fuck and caused me to not check the blog for weeks until I knew it was gone completely, it wasn't funny after a few days but it just kept going. And also, most of the scry posts are unnecessary and there are other blogs for that purpose. (yet people post on smr anyway cause they know they'll get more attention due to the higher follower count)

It just feels like the people running SMR saw that DR was dying and went, "we can make a new blog!" and didn't think about how to properly run one/think about the do's and don't's.

Anyways.. Sorry for the rant, I just... the name is saltminerising, what the fuck am I doing here looking at scries and shitty jokes. The blog is just FRD but more feral, it feels like.

So... like how any other website does age verification? At least this way it's not on your head if anyone's personal information gets out or minors get in.

I mean, I'm literally just looking for the month and year, nothing else, not to mention I will forget who I just checked moments later after writing down they were verified. I tell them immediately to delete it after I see it. And thing is, it is still on my head if a minor gets in because I *let* them in. I do not want the staff, nor myself, or even any of the other members to be the reason a minor gets exposed to 18+ content.

I've had this happen before in a different server I help in and it was a big issue.

y'all wildin for no reason. do you also think the porn sites that ask you if you're 18 get in trouble when a minor lies?

IDs are harder to fake due to how the surface is, so photoshops are easy to tell. Also if you're willing to go through the effort to convincingly PS an ID just to see dragon dong, well, I don't really know what to say tbh.

But that's the thing. Not even websites take your ID for age verification. I've never been asked to do that. This is a discord server, you're not a trustworthy business, group, etc. It's just not a good idea at all.

Just because you say you won't save it doesn't mean we can believe you.
