Basically, if your account has been inactive or has any odd login attempts, you need a code emailed to you. 2fa that is only used if they detect anything odd. As I figured.

What is 'odd'? Twitter emails come screaming into my inbox the moment I login on a desktop even though I only ever login in a desktop, same IP address each time...

In the context given, seeing as I've accessed my account on three devices since it came up with nothing, my bet is sudden drastic changes in location or attempts at using invalid credentials.

Interesting to see they put in that you can't opt out at this time. Would be kind of nice to see it possibly relaxed in the future; in addition to annoyance and accessibility concerns, I could also see A) the announcement to make sure your FR account was tied to a real email address being missed by a lot of people in the wash of art and NotN updates, not to mention RL holiday business, and B) people on hiatus who'd have no idea about the new policy until they tried to return.

My guess is once they think they have a handle on the account break in issues, they'll let people actively opt out.

However, I think they may be of the mind it's better to have to have staff deal with long inactive accounts without a valid email attached manually.

It's so petty, but nothing makes me as smug as when I see someone reserve a "first post" in a skin contest thread and staff deletes it.

I actually wasn't aware that it was more than just phone-based since I have never heard of the others! (or at least never heard stuff like that called it, I've gotten emails about "signing in from another device, please verify your account" things before).

I just worry because I don't have a phone at all haha :) And other sites I've been on are pushing the "you should attach a phone number to your account" thing, though it's not required.

Yup. I have a few sites where the 2fa is just a code by email. By definition, 2fa just means there needs to be a third piece of info like a security key. Those verification emails are basically 2fa. Email based ones aren't considered very secure, mind, but it is a thing. If the email is hacked, they have your account.

And I do understand not having a phone. I only have an emergency TracFone personally.

My favorite part so far is on page 2 when OP says the admins should have compensated everyone for the current value of their hoarded vials before making any changes. I get that they're frustrated, but that's a mind boggling level of entitlement.

Honestly, back when it happened, I thought there should be a way to trade the scatters for new specific vials. It would have given something, but not the ludicrous value they had.

Admittedly, everyone would have turn them into the priciest vial, but it would have been fair.

But I'm also fine with them not.
