I’d be more favorable of the Obe style if I didn’t settle on Flair for a longtime project WC that I chose the gene specifically for how the mane effect looks on it now :/

Not the anon you were calling dramatic at first, as it happens, but my opinion happens to be the corollary of what you're stating - it is possible to post long ranty screeds about things without caring deeply about them. Descending to actual attacks on the staff or other players is a different matter, but rambling editorials are just the form some peoples' thoughts take. (I do the same on television show forums on occasion, for example, and can assure you my actual life is never impacted by the contents of those topics any more than it is by these.)

Guessing they're only starting on it about now, since the entire point of putting the site on freeze was so they didn't have to work on it over the night, and since the announcement didn't rule out the possibility of a day or longer downtime, that sounds like they don't want to reopen until they've got a good handle on things.

Most of the time they target inactive accounts, to my knowledge, not from personal experience, because they are ones that are likely to not be noticed for a while.

They target an active account, and that account owner notices, and makes a stink about it on the forums or to the owners directly, and gets the account locked down before they can get everything they want. (or the password gets changed) Or, as in this case, the site itself is taken offline.

With inactive accounts, it is very likely they can 'raid' several before anyone notices, because those players aren't paying attention to their accounts anymore.

I do agree that no one is safe if they reuse passwords, it is just that the main targets of attacks on petsites like this are usually inactive accounts, simply because no one notices if a light sprite/gen1 imp is moved to a different account.

As I believe someone else said, with the lockdown, many people are coming back to petsites, and so they might want to trade their expensive stuff for other site currencies, so it can be hard to tell which is a legitimate owner coming back and doing offsite trading, and which are accounts being raided.

Yeah, I have seen that, and supported it and want it so much, because it would be, at least it seems like it would be, a low effort way to bring out new variety in genes, and give players the ability to further make their dragons look 'unique' while still having the same 'gene'.

I think the biggest variant issue would be for iri/shim because it is drawn by hand, so they would have to do all variants by hand.

But, most others would be minor changes, such as colors, which they have a program to do for them, or removing a layer or 'cutting' out a bit of the gene (such as runes' feet)

I *really* really wish they would bring that out...

Yeah, to be honest, I sort of dislike the idea 'obes should keep this cool effect, because it makes them super special' because what if I want imperials to be super special?

That is why I like consistency. So, I can have a cool effect on the breeds I like, and others can have it on the breeds they like.

(and yeah, there will always be gene inconsistencies that are minor, simply due to how different breeds are shaped/posed. But those are usually, as said, minor, not a major change like the obe's mane)

Oh good sense has prevailed! I pretty much have obelisks built around the flair gene but at the same time it didn't seem fair to take away what other people had either.

Maybe an eventual solution for consistency would be releasing alternative versions of genes that have problems like this so people have have both.

best option possible, right after the golden suggestion of making gene variants (god staff if you are reading this please please please consider making gene variants or gene 2.0 versions or something, this way everyone's projects are still achievable and no one's already gened dragons need to get changed, it's win win)

considering their other posts talking about how because the results aren't public on the flair poll, staff could just lie to all of us. they don't mean well lol

i have nothing against being critical of staff as i am very frequently just that and have been during this flair issue. but they're being a bit ridiculous.

this whole conspiracy that staff talked about the security issues prior to changing flair so it would "soften the blow" are completely baseless. why isn't it more believable that Undel made a mistake independent of anything related to site security.

i also think it's pointless to assume that they shut down the site just because they were getting criticism. that definitely probably contributed to their stress amongst the security issues they were seeing, but who cares? stop pretending like staff is trying to prevent you from bitching about their mistakes. site wasn't down that long and you can go back to complaining on FRD

Lol. Not mad, especially in light of what the site as a whole had to deal with, getting NotN extended, etc. Just when I saw the post saying a very small number of people would lose it...somehow I knew even before I logged in. Just curious exactly how exclusive a club I'm in here.

Honestly, if the poll wasn't hidden, I could see someone trying to ask non player friends to help them increase the chance that their choice wins and be able to know how many that they need. Hidden makes rigging harder.

this and also people vote more honestly when they don't know the results. seeing how many people don't want new breeds changed at all, might be sway someone with no strong feelings either way to vote for option 1 or 3 (whichever is ahead). rather than vote for what they personally want because they may want all breeds to have the old obelisk flair, but feel pressure to vote with the popular option.

Are your dailies that more important than the security of accounts and the site, are they more important than the well-being of staff and that they don't have to work through the night/overtime?

Also they get anyway a day extra, yes it sucks to a extent, but it is not worth whining over when accounts of users where at risk.

... All of the options look like the same sparkle level in Obelisk manes, to me. Am I missing something?

Anyway, I'm torn; I like the sparkles but think the original non-Obelisk gradient is way better!
