Frankly, I'm totally okay with people blocking me to ban me from buying from them in future -- though I would ask that you let me know so I can make it a mutual block (and have included info to do so at the end of the post). That said, I wouldn't consider my particular mark-ups to be 'scalping' prices. Some stats more because I was curious than because I thought anyone would give a shit: Of the 298 total UMAs I'm currently selling (disregarding fest stuff), 7 (2.3%) are priced >1kg, with a maximum price of 2500g. (Mostly super-popular artists that do limited print runs, customs, skincents, or a mix thereof.) 239 (80.2%) are priced at 1kg (vast majority of accents/skincents) 1 (0.3%) is priced at 850g (single-print custom I made for myself with very niche appeal) 4 (1.3%) are priced at 750g (4-5 year old stuff that I know for a fact got mass-printed) 47 (15.7%) are priced at or below 500g (remaining copies of my own stuff, or old copies of accents from drama-involved users)
So a bit over 97% of the skins/accents/skincents I'm selling are 1kg or below. Considering the most common accent purchase price bracket is 500-800g, and the most common skincent/skin purchase price bracket is 850-1200g, that's barely a mark-up at all, let alone "scalper" prices (and some may even be being sold at a loss, depending on whether I purchased them from the artist/what they cost at the time, or whether I grabbed them off the AH instead of a proper shop which I've done quite a few times). Fair disclosure: I originally started most of the current 1kgs at 1500g a year ago (and about half of the original number has sold at those prices), slowly lowering it over the course of a year to 1kg, but tbh, I think that's a fairly reasonable price range and slow-lowering. And again, any artist that doesn't want their work selling at those prices is very welcome to do a reprint and undercut me. I quite literally encourage it.
The problem with "oh, just look up each individual artist, find their shop, and then obey their rules!!" is that when you have UMA collections numbering 600+, as with my original collection before I started selling, it's just impractical to check the rules of over 200+ different artists, many of whom have ' a) left the site b) closed their shops c) changed their username without updating the item tooltip d) not made their shops easily found from their profiles e) have wildly differing prices and policies even among their own work (e.g. they may have a retired set where resale is allowed but also nonretired which cost half as much but can't be resold, but also they then have limited-print recolours and if that exists then you can resell only on every third Tuesday for a 160% mark-up or less) f) any mix of the above combined Maybe you remember one or two from being a very frequent return buyer, but even then, you may not directly remember the exact rules. So as a whole, it's just easier to bulk list at a default price and slowly lower as time goes on, rather than spend lord-knows-how-many hours hunting down 200+ shops, many of which don't even exist because the user is inactive/quit, the user never made a forum shop and sells exclusively through the AH, or which may or may not apply depending on how you view purchasing from a third party instead of that user. (e.g. if you buy from or trade with another user, are you still ""bound"" by the original rules you never saw?).
That said, anyone who wants to block me (you won't be losing sales; I haven't purchased an accent in basically a year now, and have zero plans to do so at any point in the future ever again) for the sake of their conscience can feel free to do so at Alestrius #56899. Do me a favour though; if you're going to block me, please let me know who you are so it can be two-way. I prefer to have mutual blockings going on whenever possible so that people can't get cold feet. :p
oh no, don't get me wrong- i don't give enough of a shit to block you, not to mention i'm an accent purchaser myself, not an artist. i literally could not care less about you and you don't need to explain your sob story to me in a drama community.
i am on the opposite end of the spectrum from you. i personally never sell my accents at all, presumably because i have hoarding tendencies- but they're better being used to hoard pretty pixels on a dragon game than on real life. that's my right. it's your right to sell your shit. some people may be mad at me for keeping limited runs and not using them (yet i swear), some people may be mad at you for reselling for a profit. neither of us is more 'correct' than the other. and that's what we call bipartisanship :)
I don't get the "cold feet" thing. If you don't think artists should try to control how you use the site, why do you give a fuck about how other people manage their blocks?
