In most (if not every) previous year, the contents of the containers (I'm just calling them boxes from now on in the post even if the containers vary) have been dictated by the colour of the box, without hugely significant contents variety. The community has been "trained" to pick their favourite colour of box, because that's the colour of scarf or familiar or cardboard mask or whatever else that they'll get. There are years of precedent for that, that all of the items will be (relatively) even in value and it's just a matter of picking the colour you like. There's a sliiight exception in the paper masks, but even then, it was something the community "cracked" the code on early because the number of boxes was equal to the number of breeds, so while you didn't know what you were getting exactly, there was a strong possibility it was breed-related and you could tailor what you wanted that way.
But this year, the contents aren't remotely based on the colours of the bags, and the admins gave no notice that it was going to be that way (At least to my knowledge, correct me if I'm wrong.), nor were the item descriptions or quantity remotely significant in regards to a part of the site. So users picked their favourite colours of bag, and then the values differed GREATLY based on contents (which was a very forseeable circumstance -- companion items like the plushes are among the most popular items on the entire site, while the lanyards are pretty blatantly not going to have wide appeal and be more niche, affecting the value). So yeah, it's a forseeable case of expectation and reality not lining up based on what the admins have trained us to expect from marva boxes.
I think the plushies vs lanyards vs masks thing could easily have been workable if the admins had just posted a quick admin notice saying, "Hey, we decided to try something new this year and go with themed bags not based on colours!" But as usual, the admins can't communicate their way out of a cardboard marva box, and so instead, there's users that are disappointed with their items when that could have been very easily mitigated.
why would this need to be communicated? you get one freebie, you can get the others through trade or gameplay, it is not a high-value item and prices are spiked right now on account of novelty
blaming this on the admins feels like it's done in bad faith. so they didn't color-code items that are hard to color code--that's not a failure to communicate.
These April Fool’s events have always been a surprise in every way, why in god’s name would they have needed to have given us a warning that the items will be varying this year?? And why does no one seem to remember that we’ve had varying items in the past (Phoenix and buttersnake)
I’m just hoping the admin don’t get discouraged by this whining cuz it’s honestly kind of nice having a change of pace, not just a million recolors of the same apparel item.
