Oh, of course! But I would imagine artists and dom orgs and attendants also do what they do for fun. It doesn't make sense for only artists to get paid in cash and not enjoyment. Imagine if you threw a birthday party and randomly paid only the person who volunteered to make a banner but not the person who baked the cake or set up chairs or whatever.
