Do people not just adblock the items that make them uncomfortable? I have a centipede phobia but I've had those items adblocked for like 7 years at this point, and I had kinda assumed everyone just did that with the items that activated their phobias.

(Not trying to point fingers or blame or anything -- I'm literally just curious because I thought it was common practice/prevalent, but now I'm wondering if it's not.)

I use adblock, but the issue is that not everyone can.

Some people use browsers that don't have a good blocking addon (probably mainly various mobile ones), some people use things like school or shared computers where they do not have permission to download things to the computer, some use multiple devices which means they have to do a lot of extra work to make sure they have everything blocked on all devices, and so on.

Plus, with things like FR, there are some things that can't be blocked. I have the spider items icons and familiars blocked, but I can't block coliseum enemies. I cannot block spider apparel should we get it. If we get a spider gene (orb/weaver? sort of makes me nervous, not so much the actual design but just the names :P) that makes it look like the dragon has spiders all over it or adds extra legs or something, I can't block that.

Having the blocking be FR side rather than Player side means that all those go away, and makes it so everyone can use it, even if they can't use third party software.

Ahh, I hadn't really thought about mobile/shared computers, nor items that can't be blocked (I haven't looked at apparel or genes in years so I kinda forgot they could be a source of a problem lol -- guess that's my out of touch moment for the day).

And yeah, don't get me wrong; I'd personally like to see an on-site option. I was just mostly surprised by the number of people who seemed to be really struggling when it's been a workaround-solved issue to me for years (just like how iirc there were some browser plugins to solve color-blind issues at one point many years ago, though I don't know if they've been maintained). As I said, I wasn't pointing fingers or blaming, I was really just curious.
