Why did they get rid of it?

It's still there if you click See More Updates on the site status window.
They've just removed the menu link.

The real question is, why did they add the Dev Tracker back to the sidebar when there is a link to it on the front page?

To be fair, the Dev Tracker on the sidebar is a lot more convenient while browsing the site vs. having the link only be on FR's main page.
