congrats on your fire discord chat not being a CoD lobby filled with slurs, as if that makes this situation any better? the screens here are from either this week or a month ago (not far back at all imo), and it was solely to provide transparent context to all of the discussion that was happening. why are you putting so much effort into belittling someone who, when the spotlight was on fire for their supposed toxicity and failing leads, provided tangible proof of both things?
With the recent drama with and around Fire Flights Dom team and efforts (or lack thereof), what's peoples thoughts on having more than one Dom Team in a Flight?
I've heard it's been done before but don't personally have any details on it.
i feel fairly mixed. on one hand it could provide nice in-flight competition for fundraising and event participation, but would likely be confusing for new/casual players and inherently splits funds and efforts. for big events like festivals and pushes, both dom teams need to be 100% in sync for things like bank withdrawals and blitzes.
Hey friend, just apropos of nothing, I thought I'd put this here. Since a certain somebody was too big a dipshit to define "shady" on their own, I just used Google and Wikipedia to find out.
"The expressions "throw shade", "throwing shade", or simply "shade", are slang terms for a certain type of insult, often nonverbal."
It is an insult! Better luck next time to LVSvsS, who I'm sure isn't you but could definitely use this information anyway.
It would kill any actual dom in that flight by splitting the limited efforts into two, not to mention would likely turn off any player actually joining - like, imagine team 1 having a conquest while team 2... sits? Most flights, excluding Earth, would never win then.
I've heard of multiple people (heck, I know of two instances in my own) making alternative teams but they never lasted long or actually took off.
How often are massive discord and flight-exclusive logs leaked like this?
I mean, I'm not mad I'm on there a few times, I thought it was funny, but I get why others are frustrated that they're on there.
Such is the life of Flight Rising! Someone or some flight has to be the villain of the week, and this week it's Fire. I was one of the people frustrated with dom on those logs and I want change for Fire dom but like I don't see what good it does for other flights to see it all.
Only once in a while, and it's usually not done lightly.
Last big discord leak I remember was Rowan trying to stir shit up with water Dom.
How does it help? Your leads were happy pushing it under the rug for all this time. Public embarrassment can get results where normal channels don't. It's a last resort of desperation.
Fair enough, it does feel like there is going to be change due to this whole drama, but that was already getting pushed with the thread in FRD and with the censored logs, as well as the disastrous intro to FF. Posting the literal suggestion thread on how to improve the flight as well as uncensored messages from months ago was a bit much imo.
Feels like Fire's IF business is just getting aired out solely so it can be laughed at by others by this point, rather than for a genuine push for change or something. And again, I was one of the users criticizing Fire dom and I genuinely do want change, but I think right now everything that can be said has been said (unless some new terrible thing comes up haha), and anything else is just arguing for the sake of arguing and getting mad.
Definitely agree that there are likely going to be changes. I'm frustrated with Fire's Dom but I think they need a break after FF. Things will cool down and likely take place behind the scenes once more. If things get worse, some players might end up posting here again. For the most part, however, I think change will be handled in-flight.
I personally hope that things will change for the better. They might! I'm very hopeful for a good outcome from all of this.
I wish you luck, and as someone who's seen many of these things happen over the years from various sites and whatnot, I have advice for you and your flight:
Stop. Leave this alone, go do something about your very real problems. The energy you and yours use to fight and argue is wasted here. The damage is done. There's a number of your folks that will be held accountable for things they shouldn't have said, even in "private". Just move on, let the peanut gallery chatter.
Fix your shit and stop fanning the flames on an anonymous drama comm.
honestly it doesn't work, no matter how you parse it you're splitting the flight efforts which is ultimately ineffective. plus, its really really hard to get folks to trust in the newer team because they're gonna want to put their faith in the oldies who have been running things forever and basically know what they're doing.
I know people try it occasionally, like arcane after the Celestial Senate thing years ago, but it never seems to work
..... but those screens only proved that people have been voicing complaints and trying to get meaningful change, and they also confirmed that toxicity and dom lead indifference have been actively responsible for the lack of improvement. it truly looks like there was no other option to instigate a meaningful change other than putting these folks in the hot seat.
it sucks that it had to happen in such an embarrassing way, and i genuinely feel for embers who feel upset. i certainly felt mega shitty when lightning dom was torn to shreds last summer, cause it's something i've been participating in for a few years. if the drama blogs are causing you distress i recommend blocking or otherwise avoiding them, this will blow over in time when the fire leads listen.
I've always been morbidly curious about how such a thing would play out. Given how officially player-run holiday events are treated (being reported on in Dom Watch as well as, if I recall correctly, staff-posted wrapups), despite there being nothing similarly official granting the dom team authority (or even recognizing the existence of a 'dom team' as an entity), the fact that there's never (in my recollection) been a situation where multiple full-fledged teams were warring over whose event listing was the 'real' one seems like very lucky happenstance.
i think a lot of this has to do with the effort required to truly "lead" these kinds of things, and the reputation and trust that's associated with them. some joe schmoe saying "hey give me some fundraising money, i wanna be a dom lead" will probably get ignored. someone who's been active in the community for years with a good reputation/history of running events effectively might get a different response from the IF and OOF community.
this, it's a LOT of effort. running the raffle bank itself is almost a part time job. there's a lot of logistics and record keeping and other mundane tasks required to be a competent dom team - people who do it, do it for the love of the game.
i respect the hustle but the people who have 10kG+ on hand to buy a single dragon are also the ones who will not be dumb enough to spend it on this lmfao. also some of those ones near the bottom..... ive exalted g1s like that without thinking twice
Dude what. I've bought beautiful pre-gened doubles that were half the price of some of those fugly dragons. I actually like a few of them listed but not in hell for those prices.
"Some are priced high as we are tentative on keeping them"
Right... Because that Clay/Fuchsia/Phthalo is just so good that someone would have to pay 2.5kg to pry it from your hands because you like it so much. I get that taste is subjective but that's no excuse to jack up the prices to this extent.
Yeah, some of them are good, like that Moon/Coral/Blush is a pretty neat scry, but it's not 10kg worth of neat, at least to me. Best of luck to them in actually selling anything at those prices.
Now I am admittedly out of the loop when it comes to G1 collector prices, but I've come across so many nicer unbred triple basic G1s for near fodder prices. I cannot imagine buying some of these for more than 1kg, maybe that's just me though..
I'm pretty familiar with G1 pricing and I would say 75% of all G1s don't go for anything over 300g. Most random hatches are fodder. If I ever get a nice one, I price it around 500g-1000g usually, and these are things that I know are popular colors. About the most I've ever seen non-overpriced XYZs go for (not including outliers like glitched dragons, 2-letter names, etc) is like, 5-10kg *at most*. And it's very rare to sell an XYZ for that much. Even one-offs don't usually contribute much extra.
Theu're never gonna get their dragons to sell for those prices, but it sounds like they're digging their heels in. I feel bad for any buyers they get, honestly. (I would archive the post but they said they'd haggle down to 75% of the regular price... which is still like 2.5kg. Sure.)
