I'm sorry this happened to you anon, and I don't know how else to counteract this other than my own method, since this happens to me sometimes. What I've learned to do is to just take it in stride. If someone one-ups me, I'll try to be supportive about it or shrug it off, because I know I won't end up feeling good about anything or myself if I remain bitter. I've kind of accepted that there will always be somebody better than me, but as long as I'm having my own fun, that's all I care about.
Comparing yourself to others all the time ends up detrimental to your fun, and I ended up taking a step back from the game and re-evaluating these types of thoughts and trying to work stuff out that way when I went back into the game. It sucks that they do that, and maybe they are just trying to make themselves feel better/superior to you, but the second you feel inferior to them is the moment they win. And there will always be people like that no matter where you go, no matter what game nor community you put yourself in.
Perhaps try to find a better environment/section of the community where this doesn't happen, or happen as much? Though, I'm a little unsure of what to suggest. I don't know where this occurs for you, but I'd make a solid guess that FRD is the worst offender of this happening. In Discord servers, this happens to me too, though not as often as I've seen it happen on FRD, but I know not everyone likes using Discord. I wish I could offer better advice, but I just wish you the best. :(
TLDR; Someone is always going to be better than you, but you can't let that determine how you feel about your own achievements. You shouldn't play Flight Rising to be "good", that's not a good mindset. You should be playing to have fun, regardless of what other people are doing. One of the things I like about Flight Rising is that you can play it however way you want, really. You don't need to go for all familiars, you don't need to collect rare or valuable dragons, you can just do whatever. Comparing yourself to others is natural, and it sucks sometimes, but in the end it's your choice whether to let it be detrimental to your fun or for it to not have a hold over you.
And I hope I'm not coming off as preachy or any of that shit, I just thought this may be able to help you in some way, but if not, I apologize. Even if you don't come back to the game, I hope you can find that fun elsewhere!
