Yes, it is annoying to see. Do I actually care enough to be bothered about it though? not really. I remember being 15 and having a 'group thread' on chickensmoothie, im sure we were horribly annoying(mods actually asked us to move it offsite at some point and locked it, in some astounding display of 13-15yo maturity(I don't entirely understand in hindsight given who we were) we actually did create our own forum to hang out in) but i remember being these kids and having CS/FR as my main hangout spot, using a separate chatroom felt weird and overwhelming especially because the nature of a forum thread is that it's much easier to communicate while not having to be there at the exact same time
