It's always so weird to me how many people claim that LvP was some kind of beginning for people wanting to make a profit from dom. I've been here since 2014 and remember making bank from battles long before that. I especially remember people complaining that other flights only care about raffle prizes, and then when public buys were introduced people complained about how mercenary they were and what a shame it is that so many people are motivated by treasure. And then they complained long and hard about actual mercs, of course. Dom has always been costly in one way or another, and people have looked to make a profit off it for nearly all of the site's history. As far as I can tell, the only special thing about LvP was that it was high stakes and involved a lot of stress and drama which made the combatants more likely to get tired of the arrangement. It's just odd how much it made people seem to forget that that arrangement is way older than 2016.
