We also keep curtains closed during the day - along with the house having thick stone walls it does help a lot. During the night once it's cooler outside than in, we open as many windows and doors as we can to get a good cross-breeze going.
But last night the outside walls were radiating so much heat I think we could have fried an egg on them if we'd been able to somehow defy gravity.
