mannnnnn, idk what it is lately but I just don't feel great seeing all these people commissioning skin artists with USD or FRC for customs only to turn around and sell one copy for 15kG-20kG or all three copies for 25kG. I admit that I feel completely differently when it's the artist themselves selling the extras they have of the skin, as then the artist is profiting off their own work, but it feels weird as hell to me to see people commissioning an artist and then turning around to profit off it in the end. So many people commission recolor slots with FRC only to sell off spare copies and end up with a surplus of gems after the blueprint cost and base recolor fee from the artist. For example: 6000G for 5 copies of a skin, 1 ends up with the main artist, 1 is kept by the commissioner, and three are put up for sale/auction where they're marked at 3000-5000G as the starting bid. Make the math make sense without it looking like you're just using the loop hole to use artists for your own benefit. I get that you want the shiny skin, hell yeah, but if you're making mad profit off it then maybe you should consider splitting the net profit with the artist themselves rather than using it to buy more recolors and have the loop continue.
If you're reselling your 5-print recolor for 2000G? Fine, I'm not going to be as side-eye about it. Reselling one copy of your 5-print recolor for 6000G when the blueprints were 3500/cost of recolor was 2500? feels bad!
Artists profiting off their work? Hell yeah, they put in that effort! Commissioners using artist slots to profit? Hell no. I've seen some cases where profits seem to be split with the artist, which gives me hella hope but mannnnnnn the rest of it not so much.
I'm not directing this at anyone in particular, just venting my feelings on the matter. It is demoralizing to see, as someone who wants to open up custom skin commissions for people but really feels shitty to see people profiting off their stuff because then it ends up feeling like the person only commissioned you to make bank and get a shiny out of it too. I might just stick to doing personal skins and auctioning off copies on my own rather than doing customs because wow it just does not sit right to me.
