I think they're just trolling. It's true that quitting cold turkey can cause major problems for an alcoholic, but you'd have to be spectacularly stupid to think that justifies someone lying and scamming to feed their addiction, or that they're "looking after their health" by doing so. Scammers deserve to be shamed all day long.
