i've seen some super obvious multis (straight up stating it on their profiles) that stayed up a while until they were reported.
speculation, but my assumption would be that staff periodically checks certain flags, like maybe login/logout behavior on shared IPs. i don't think anyone knows exactly what they do or don't monitor. i would 100% assume they monitor things for cheating in general, so i don't think it's just reported accounts that get banned.
if you're worried about being banned, if you'd be upset by a ban, i'd cut your losses and ditch the second account. it doesn't seem worth losing years of progress and collecting because of a second account.
